TP Quick Review:

I have three things I absolutely love about the design of Lenovo IdeaPad V470:
1. It's built like a tank. I mean, the enclosure is metal, for crying out loud. Totally solid, no flexes or creaks.
2. The hand-rest below the keyboard is made of aluminum so do you don't have to worry too much about wear and tear on that part due to regular use.
3. V470's keyboard with island-style keys is a joy to use. It's not exactly a ThinkPad keyboard (duh) but it's quite good, nonetheless.

As for performance, well, you can't go wrong with 2GHz Intel Core i7 and 4GB of DDR3 RAM. This notebook is more than capable of business computing. You can actually play relatively specs-intensive games on it. Performance-wise, it's one of the business laptops to beat.

At Php 50,000, Lenovo IdeaPad V470 is a bit on the steep side. Nonetheless, when you consider its svelte looks and powerful specs, I'd say it's sulit.

If you're a business user and you want a laptop that can help you impress your clients, you should definitely check our Lenovo IdeaPad V470.

Nokia 700 Price, Specs, Photos, Video - In the Flesh! Initial Impressions!

Posted: 24 Sep 2011 09:53 PM PDT

Last Friday, I had the opportunity to see one of the first Symbian Belle phones in the world, Nokia 700, in the flesh:

At just 50 cubic centimeters and measuring only 9.7 millimeters at its thickest point, Nokia 700 could very well be the most compact smartphone on the planet.

But what this phone lacks in size it makes up for in functionality. Nokia 700 comes with single-tap NFC pairing and sharing capabilities, a 1Ghz processor, 3.2 inch AMOLED screen Nokia Clear Black Gorilla Glass display, 2GB of internal memory expandable up to 32GB via microSD card, 720p 30fps HD video capture and a 5 MegaPixel full focus camera with LED flash.

Tree-huggers will also be glad to know that Nokia 700 is probably Nokia's most eco-friendly smartphone to date. With long battery life, extensive use of eco-friendly materials and features minimizing battery consumption, Nokia 700 is the ideal smartphone for all environmentally-conscious smartphone users.

Nokia 700's Symbian Belle operating system, which is the latest of all planned updates to the Symbian platform, features several enhancements like a pull-down menu and taskbar, NFC support, 6 home screens, more widget sizes, and an even more improved browser.

Watch Nokia 700 and a bit of Symbian Belle in the flesh:

So how much will this cost in the Philippines when it finally lands here in October? I was told the SRP will be around Php 16,000 to Php 17,000.

TP Initial Impressions:

1. When Nokia tells you Nokia 700 is compact, it's really compact. If you're not a fan of bulky smartphones taking too much space in your bag or pocket, this one should be perfect for you.

2. Nokia has done away with the letter-number smartphone nomenclature (e.g. Nokia X3-02) so it's a bit harder now to figure out which category a phone belongs to. Nonetheless, when I held Nokia 700, I felt like it was actually made to be part of Nokia's X-series entertainment line. Its form factor reminds me of Nokia X6 and Nokia X3-02 Touch and Type's design.

3. Aside from its compact form, the pixel density of Nokia 700's screen is another thing about it that totally blew me away. The display is just so clear! It's not exactly iPhone-4-Retina-Display clear but it's close to it.

4. The thing I like most about Symbian Belle is the drop-down status bar, which now makes it a lot easier to turn connectivity options - specifically Wifi, Bluetooth and Mobile Data - on and off.

5. Symbian Belle's digital clock homescreen widget reminds me of HTC's signature HTC Sense clock. They don't look exactly like each other but I think it's a great sign that Nokia is also scouting the competition and is trying to match what they can offer.

So there.
