Let me tell you, it deserves the name Bold.

Metal-clad BlackBerry Bold 9900 will be officially released in the Philippines on October 7, 2011 with a suggested retail price of Php 31,000 without contract and with 2-years warranty.

Bringing Stunning Looks Back to the Bold Line

Not to take anything away from the look of BlackBerry Bold 9700 and 9780 but I don't really think they're anywhere near BlackBerry Bold 9000 (the phone that came before them) when it comes to elegance of design and construction. Flaunting metal band on its sides and faux leather at the rear and having a relatively massive build, Bold 9000 is probably one of the best-looking smartphones RIM has ever released.

As someone who's been following the development of RIM smartphones for sometime now, I find it relieving to know that RIM is bringing sheer grandeur back to the design of handsets under its flagship line. I know a lot of BlackBerry Bold fans who prefer the look of BB Bold 9000 over that of 9700, and for sure, they'll be glad to know that BlackBerry Bold 9900 - replete with brushed stainless steel frame - looks just like an updated version of their favorite BlackBerry handset from 2008.

Thin Yet Powerful!

BlackBerry Bold 9900 is the thinnest BB smartphone yet at only 10.5 millimeters, and the first to offer a combination of high performance BB keyboard, trackpad and capacitive touch display integrated within its iconic BlackBerry Bold design.

The new BlackBerry Bold 9900 is also the first BlackBerry smartphone to feature built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) Support. NFC is a new technology that is enabling many new capabilities, including the ability to pair with NFC-enabled accessories such as speakers and earphones or read SmartPoster tags with one tap of the smartphone.

Enhanced Browsing Experience

BlackBerry 7, the operating system of BlackBerry Bold 9900, introduces a next generation BlackBerry browser with a significantly faster and more fluid web browsing experience. Combining the improved performance of the advanced WebKit browser engine with the hardware enhancements in the BlackBerry Bold 9900, the BB 7 Browser delivers browsing speeds that are 40% faster than BlackBerry 6 based smartphones and up to 100% faster than BlackBerry 5 based smartphones.

Pinoys Welcome Mr. Ray Gillenwater, RIM Country Manager for the Philippines!

Great news for LG Optimus Black owners and those who are planning to buy this amazing phone soon!

The slimmest handset with the world's brightest NOVA Display, LG Optimus Black, will become even more incredible when it finally gets Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware update within October!

lg optimus black

Android 2.3 Gingerbread brings a number of enhancements to the already powerful Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. For me, the three most useful improvements that come with Gingerbread are the following:

Improved Power Management and Uptime
Android 2.3 ensures maximum battery life and best performance possible by taking a more active role in managing applications that keep the device awake for too long or that are consuming a large chunk of the CPU while running in the background.

Enhanced Gaming Experience
Android 2.3 minimizes application pauses by identifying and solving performance and memory issues. Likewise, Gingerbread improvements found across the system help enhance gaming experience by providing smoother animation and increased responsiveness in touch and keyboard events.

Better Control Over Applications
Running applications tab in Gingerbread's Application Manager displays a list of active Apps as well as the memory and storage being used. Users will have the ability to know more about each App and even close each running App when necessary.

There you go. I will let you know once Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware update becomes available. I'll even post a step by step guide on how to install it on your phone using LG PC Suite. Please stay tuned.

This is downright scary.

High tide and super strong winds and heavy rains brought by Typhoon Pedring joined forces to create tsunami-like waves that rolled violently towards Roxas Boulevard.

Paul Go who was staying in a building in front of Baywalk during the whole incident was able to catch the terrifying scene on video:

Paul wrote this comment on FB: "Sira na [ang] sea wall sa Manila Bay, [malaki ang chance na umapaw talaga dito ang dagat]. Dami na nalunod na kotse [...], [tapos] tumama na dito sa condo namin, kawawa naman [yun]g mga kotse na mahulog sa bay."

God bless the Philippines.

At around 1130 this morning, I was awoken by heavy rains battering the tin roof. I stood up, looked out my bedroom window and saw that the street was already covered by knee-high murky waters. It rarely happens. The last time I saw much flood in front of our house in Manila was last year, during Ondoy.

Typhoon Pedring has turned out to be a super typhoon; CNN has even called it 'dangerous'.
