Dell Venue Price Price Philippines Php 17,700 - 5 Things I Like About Its Design

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 01:54 AM PST

I've been playing with my Dell Venue for a little more than three weeks now and one of the things that I can honestly say I love about this Android phone is its premium design.

As a flagship handset from the American company, Dell Venue came with top-notch set of specifications and the best design that Dell could have given the smartphone during its point of release.

I'll tackle the specs in another post but for now, let me share with you the five things that I like about Dell Venue's design.

1. Curved Gorilla Glass Touchscreen - Like LG Optimus 2X, Nokia N9, HTC Sensation and Sensation XE, Dell Venue flaunts a curved capacitive screen, which doesn't only make the phone look unique and elegant but also reflects the level of attention to detail that went into designing it.

2. Metallic Accents - This is a current design trend for smartphones. iPhone 4S and LG Optimus 2X come replete with metal on their sides; HTC Sensation XE's case is made of aluminum. If anything, Dell Venue owners can rest assured that their handset with its own metal accents won't feel shy when placed beside these new phones.

3. Camera Hardware Button - It baffles me how almost all handset manufacturers seemed to have ditched the idea of putting a hardware camera button on their flagship smartphones. Is it because they found out that not too many consumers use it that often? Anyway. I find it nice that Dell bothered to put one on Dell Venue. I'm one of those who like taking self-photos and that button makes it easier for me to take such shots.

4. Gorgeous Battery Cover - Dell Venue's back cover easily is one of the most gorgeous I've seen. In the middle, there's the big metallic Dell logo. And the whole battery cover has an attractive and classy design pattern.

5. Solid Feel in the Hand - The curved glass display, the metal accents and the overall masterful construction combine to make Dell Venue one of the best designed phones out in the market. And it's not all about looks. When you hold this phone, the way it feels in the hand will tell you that it's a truly a top-of-the-line device.

BlackBerry Torch 9860 Price Philippines Php 24,690 - Specs, Release Date, Features

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 12:10 AM PST

The Storms have passed.

Previous models of BlackBerry's full touchscreen devices have been less successful than their direct competitors or even other BB models which feature physical QWERTY keyboards. One reason - I think - is that the old BB OS doesn't particularly flaunt a touch-centric interface; Hence, the user experience is not as natural or as fluid when using traditional touch gestures.

The Storm line is now history but BlackBerry is not giving up its battle in the touchscreen category.

Perhaps to show consumers that the company still has a desire to be a strong contender in this category, the Canadian company recently introduced 2 new full touchscreen models in the Philippines, namely, the Curve 9380 and the Torch 9860. While the Curve 9380 was made for the mid-level market, The BlackBerry Torch 9860 will carry the "torch" of the BB Storm 2 in the flagship touch-screen battle dominated by the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy S II.

What makes 9860 stand-out from other new BlackBerry models is its large, high resolution display, giving users the highest satisfaction level in terms of multimedia consumption. Watching videos, reading emails, browsing the net, and games are more fun with BlackBerry Torch 9860. It is also equipped with the most powerful 1.2 GHz processor BlackBerry has to offer.

All these considered, I can say that, with this device, one can experience the full potential of the BlackBerry 7 OS, a software tailor-fit for touchscreens.

Other flagship touchscreen phones may have more powerful specs than this device. But the competitive advantage of Torch 9860 is the BlackBerry Services such as BBM, push email, and social networking service integration like what only a BB phone can deliver. With that in mind, I believe this phone aims to attract a new breed of BB fans -- those wanting to experience the best BlackBerry has to offer on a purely touchscreen handset.

The phone will be officially released on January 13, 2012 with a retail price of Php 24,690.

TechPinas Exclusive!

I was walking around Glorietta Digital Exchange Zone the other day when I saw this in a store's display shelf --

Some TP Friends have told me about PSVita's availability in malls, but I had to see it for myself to believe it.

Arriving in the Philippines much earlier than expected, the Wifi-only version of Sony PlayStation Vita is now available in some gadget shops in NCR. I'm also receiving reports that a few online stores are now offering the mobile gaming device. I'm not sure if these are authorized retailers but you can get PSVita from them for around Php 18,990.

As earlier explained on TP, Sony PlayStation Vita - officially announced just last month - is the latest generation PlayStation Portable running on a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 512 MB of RAM, and sporting a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen OLED display with qHD or 960 x 544 resolution. Other features include dual analog sticks, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity support, optional 3G, GPS, front and back VGA cameras, a rear-mounted touchpad, a mobile browser, an electronic compass, accelerometer and a six-axis gyroscope motion sensor similar to that of PlayStation Move.
