Posted: 17 Jan 2012 08:59 AM PST It's College Entrance Test Results Season again! Back in high school, University of Santo Tomas was my dream university for two reasons; 1. I really wanted to be a doctor then and UST's always been known to have the best pre-med programs in the country. 2. Although I passed ACET, I had this prejudice then that Ateneo is a conio school and I'd never fit in. Plus, UST is closer to our house near Espanya. So in year 2000, I did my best to pass UST Entrance Test (USTET) and was eventually offered a slot in the university's BS Biology forte course. I still remember that day I went to their Main Building for the Bio admission interviews; "Explain Xylem and Phloem." -- I'll never forget that. I passed both the written and verbal exams but I guess there's only so much you can do to control your life or to plan where you're headed. I ended up being a scholar in AdMU and graduated with a degree in Economics in 2004; How exactly that happened is a story filled with miracles and pleasant surprises, calling for a separate entry altogether. Anyway. Despite the fact that I didn't particularly become a Thomasian in the strictest sense of the word, to this day, I still believe that UST is one of the best universities not only in the Philippines but the whole world. --- I've come to my senses. I'm sorry. I never should have dedicated a TP post to this hateful story. Channeling shards of the foul-mouthed concept that is 'Angie Ligot' and using Tumblr - a popular blogging platform - to express her thoughts, she called University of Santo Tomas both 'walang kwenta' and 'nakakahiya' and those who passed UST College Entrance Test 'bobo'. Here's the complete text: "Like I said, hindi ako bilib sa school na 'to. I didn't take the test. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I don't deserve to be in UST. Goodness gracious. Such harsh words from someone who hasn't even graduated from high school. TP Thoughts: 1. This Tumblr post angers me like nothing but I refuse to let this emotion get the better of me. First, I want to ask, 'Did she really write it?'. I want proof. Maybe her account got hacked or something. Or maybe this is just Angie Ligot Part II. Anyway. A lot of Pinoy Tumblr users are pretty convinced the girl actually wrote it; And according to them, she has another piece lambasting the University of the Philippines. I've yet to read that one. 2. How we view the world - nature, the landscape, the cities, the people and the institutions they've formed - is merely a reflection of who we are. So if we say something or someone is 'walang kwenta' or 'bobo', it's only because we likewise are. |
Angry Birds Year of the Dragon, Arriving on January 20, 2012! Posted: 16 Jan 2012 10:28 PM PST If the sheer number and variety of Angry Birds merchandise (plush toys, pillows, pencils, pencil cases, tumblers, mugs, plates etc.) I saw in Divisoria last December were any indication of how well Rovio's mobile game is doing in the Philippines, I'd say we're no less than an Angry Birds Nation. So I'm sure this news will leave a lot of Pinoy kids and kids-at-heart wide-eyed in excitement. Based on teasers recently leaked by Rovio, the next version of its Angry Birds video game is inspired by the upcoming Chinese New Year. The latest release, called simply Angry Birds Year of the Dragon, is set to arrive on January 20, 2012, which is three days earlier than the start of the Chinese New Year -- giving fans enough time to download and install the game in time for the celebration. Rovio has yet announcement which platform (Android, iOS, Nokia Belle, etc.) will get this new version first. Likewise, we've yet to hear about the pricing details. Here's to hoping it will be free and that all platforms will get it at the same time on the 20th. |
