Nokia PureView 808 is Nokia N8 Successor?! Watch the Teaser Video!

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 02:45 PM PST

Almost all other tech blogs are saying that Nokia N8's successor will most likely be the last high-end Symbian handset from the Finnish company.

I disagree.

I think the next powerhouse shooter from Nokia - the one that will supersede and dethrone Nokia N8 as the best cameraphone in the world - should be and will be a Windows Phone. I mean, if there's one handset that can totally help the Nokia-Microsoft alliance to endear WP platform to the world, the follow-up to Nokia N8 - which some are already calling Nokia PureView 808 based on the teaser video above, and previous leaks and rumors - is definitely it.

But that's just me.

Anyway, all speculations will be set straight at MWC happening in Barcelona on February 27, 2011 -- that's already Monday next week. Stay tuned for updates, TP Friends.

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 11:36 AM PST

There are three things I like about Nokia Asha 300 --

1. It's a Touch and Type phone; Flaunting both an alpha-numeric keypad and a resistive touchscreen.
2. It's one of the most affordable 3G-enabled phones out there.
3. It comes with our favorite game, Angry Birds, pre-installed.

Nokia Asha 300 gives users fast and easy 3G access to the internet and thousands of apps in the Nokia Store. This Series 40 handset also has a 5 megapixel camera for taking clear photos in well-lit conditions, which can then be easily organized and edited straight from the Nokia gallery before being uploaded to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Music lovers can enjoy the Nokia Asha 300's music player and built-in FM radio. Likewise, thanks to the phone's MicroSD card slot which supports up to 32GB, you can take all your favorite videos, music and multimedia apps wherever you go.

"Our latest smart feature phone, the Nokia Asha 300, is one of Nokia's lowest cost 3G phones," said Dharmesh Goshalia, the new General Manager and Head of Sales of Nokia Philippines. "This again shows our commitment to bringing great experiences to people with different needs –from consumers to business users."

Nokia Asha 300 features the new Nokia Browser for Series 40, which promises to provide an advanced browsing experience that makes entertainment and information easy to enjoy and discover. Aside from delivering faster and more affordable internet access due to its ability to compress and reduce over-the-air data, the browser has been specifically developed to offer locally relevant content and features.

Touch and Type Nokia Asha 300 - which comes in White, Red, and Graphite - is now available in all Nokia Stores across the archipelago with a suggested retail price of Php 4,890.

Use Nokia N9 Volume Up Button as Camera Button : Step by Step Guide

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 07:37 AM PST

I've just made my ultra-cool Nokia N9 even cooler by giving it a hardware camera button. I find this particularly useful for taking self-portraits, which - truth be told - almost everyone loves to do with their cameraphones.

Nope, I did not bore a hole on the side of the handset and added a clicker; Why would anyone want to do that to a phone this gorgeous? All I did was download an application that turns Nokia N9's Volume Up button into a Camera Button!

If you also own a Nokia N9 and you want to give your phone that clicker, here's how you do it:

1. On your Nokia N9, go to Settings, Installations, then turn on Allow installations from non-Store sources.
2. Connect to Wifi or 3G
3. Open Nokia N9's Internet Browser
4. Visit TechPinas.com and go to this post.
5. Click on this link and download the file.
6. Install Camerra Button app;

7. After installing the app, launch it.
8. Open the default camera app and use the Volume Up button as Camera clicker.

Just open Camerra app before launching the camera everytime you want to use the Volume button as clicker. Have fun!

How to Resurrect in Temple Run and Why It Hardly Makes Sense

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 02:04 AM PST

Got this inquiry from my friend Carmela S. in our mailbox earlier this afternoon, "TP, I'm already at wit's end trying to figure out how to resurrect in Temple Run. [...] I've bought several such utility but I can't seem to activate it. Isn't it automatic? How do I do it?"

TP Answer:

Hi Carmela! It's really easy. After buying Resurrection points from the Store for 500 Gold each, play the game and when you feel like the run is getting tougher and your runner will pretty much get eaten by demonic monkeys soon or slam on a tree, just double tap on the player to activate Resurrection.

You can use up all your Resurrection points in one run.

Once resurrection is activated, you'll get these wings. The wings only last for 30 seconds.

Carmela, this utility looks cute and all but I'm not really a fan of it. I think it would have been nicer if Resurrection were automatic. You see, because it's not, you'd have to plan ahead of time when to activate it. So in effect, you're predicting when the end will be for your runner and I promise you, that can affect the way you play the game negatively in more ways than one. It's like you're so afraid to die that you lose focus on what's ahead of you. I really think that, because of how it works, Resurrection in Temple Run is more of a liability than anything. I'd say just run and play the game as if it's the last.
