I think it's great that Pinoy kids seem to have no problems adapting to new technology. Now, if we can only make sure they'll grow up to be well-rounded individuals who will use technology for the betterment of society, then I'll be completely confident about the future of this country.
According to Cartoon Network's New Generations 2012 study, techie Pinoy kids are the most connected in the whole of Asia Pacific! Based on face-to-face in-house interviews with 1,000 randomly selected kids - aged 7 to 14 years old, across various socio-economic classes - from Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao, the researchers found out that 2/3 or around 65% of their young Filipino respondents own a mobile phone, which is the highest in the region -- higher than even Australia and Taiwan! Furthermore, the researchers learned that more than half of these techie Pinoy kids have internet access at home and a whopping 82% of those who live homes with a computer go online every week! 58% of the respondents play games online while 52% log on to their social networking sites every single day. Gee, I wonder how many of them actually read TechPinas. Gotta love our young readers; They are the future. "The findings show young Pinoys not only have the know-how in the digital space, but increasingly have the tools to consume and experience media across multiple platforms - from TV to PC, from their tablet to phone," shared Duncan Morris, Vice President of Research and Market Development, Turner International Asia Pacific, which owns Cartoon Network. (News Source) So what gadgets are accessible to these kids at home? Well, 38% of them watch TV on a flat screen; 54% can always use a digital camera; 20% have a smartphone (as opposed to a feature phone) within reach, while 16% of homes have a tablet. Ain't Pinoy kids the coolest? Let's guide them well. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Oh, the young BlackBerry fans will love this!
Set to be launched in the Philippines next week (on May 22, to be exact), the ultra-affordable BlackBerry Curve 9220 is ideal for young and price-conscious consumers who love to stay connected via their social media and messaging accounts, and to listen to music on the go. Aside from coming in vibrant and youthful colors namely Fuchsia Pink, Black, Pure White, Teal and Blue and having a price tag of only around Php 10,000 (hopefully, even less), perhaps the coolest thing about BlackBerry Curve 9220 is that it runs BlackBerry 7.1 operating system right out of the box. The new OS comes with a lot of innovative features - like Social Feeds and voice-activated universal search, among others - and the latest version of applications that BB fans have grown to love including Facebook for BlackBerry, Twitter for BlackBerry and of course, BBM. Other highlights of the handset include a 2.44-inch TFT display, an optical trackpad, full QWERTY thumb-type keyboard, a dedicated BBM button, 2 MegaPixel fixed focus camera at the back, VGA video recorder, a dedicated camera button, 800 MHz processor, 512 MB of RAM, microSD card slot for expanding the 512 MB internal storage, 3.5mm audio jack, FM radio on the go, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity support and a 1450 mAh Li-Ion battery, which delivers up to 7 hours of talk time, 28 hours of playing music and up to 18 days of standby. Really, for a borderline entry-level release, BlackBerry Curve 9220 sure comes with a lot of neat features that those who are still in school or who are just starting to explore the wonders of BlackBerry will surely find attractive. But if you're going to ask me why you should check it out, I'd say you should get it because it's cute and pocket-friendly, and because BIS in the Philippines - which will allow you to stay connected on BBM, Facebook and Twitter, and to access your email wherever you are - is very affordable. Again, the TP Guesstimate for BB Curve 9220's official SRP is roughly Php 10,000. As for the release date, we're guessing that it should hit store shelves across the archipelago a week or two after its official media launch on the 22nd. Hopefully we'll be able to get hold of a review unit soon so we can show you how the handset looks in the flesh. But in the meantime, you might want to check out the complete technical specifications of BlackBerry Curve 9220 --
