LG Optimus 3D Philippines Quick Review, Quick Hands-On Video!

LG Optimus 3D Philippines Quick Review, Quick Hands-On Video!

LG Optimus 3D is one of the two smartphones that Sanya, Erik and I reviewed for the upcoming episode of Pop Talk on GMA News TV! (I believe that episode will be shown tonight, October 4, 2011, 10PM - GMA News TV! Please watch it, TP Friends!)

Quoting myself from my first LG Optimus 3D post (Head on over to that entry for the complete technical specifications of this amazing handset, TP Friends),

The coolest thing about LG Optimus 3D isn't so much its svelte case, its massive screen, its Android operating system nor its dual core processor (though, I have to admit all those features are really cool too), for me, it's the fact that this smartphone - get this - can capture and playback true 3D photos and videos. Yep, I think that's what puts it above all other dual core Android phones in the market today.

So what does LG Optimus 3D have that other flagship phones don't? For 3D capture, it has stereoscopic cameras at the back. And for 3D playback, it flaunts a 3D LCD, which is perhaps the first display of its kind on a smartphone.

TP Quick Hands-On!

In between shoots, I took the opportunity to record this quick hands-on video:

The phone's battery was already low (as in borderline drained from the hours of extensive features 'testing' that we did) when I recorded this clip and some of the specs-intensive 3D apps weren't launching. Good thing I was able to open the 3D gallery, which is really cool. I think the video captures the gorgeous design and stellar build of LG Optimus 3D -- I promise you, it's one of the best-looking phones I've seen. Hopefully LG sends us a unit soon so I can show you MORE of it.

TP Quick Review:

Let's do this the Pop Talk way (Because I love love love Pop Talk and GMA News TV!) --

Design: Pop! I mean, just look at it:

Side view; Check out the sleek metal lining.

Clad in brushed metal, sturdy plastic with matte finish and scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, LG Optimus 3D exudes an aura of durability and elegance. You'd love to flaunt this phone in meetings with business partners or parties with friends.

Features: Pop! It totally deserves the 3D suffix. You don't need glasses to see 3D on the phone or to connect to a 3D TV to appreciate 3D content captured using it. The magic happens on the screen itself. Like what I said in my first post, I was totally blown away when I first saw my 3D photo on LG Optimus 3D's screen. Believe me: This Android phone - with all the powerful features that come with Android - lets you capture life in 3D and wows you with its first-of-its-kind 3D playback.

Value for Money: With SRP of Php 29,990, LG Optimus 3D - for me - is the most sulit phone in its price category. It's a flagship Android phone with sleek design and top technical specifications and it's a 3D device in every sense of the word. I highly recommend it. If you can, give a unit a test run at an LG Store near you.

TechPinas Exclusive!

Given the discrepancy in leaked features and specifications of the upcoming iPhone refresh disclosed by various insiders from the Cupertino company, I'm inclined to believe that we should expect two iPhone models to be announced on October 4.

Case # 1 : A completely redesigned iPhone

Quoting New York Times Blog,

From descriptions I've heard of the new iPhone from Apple employees, the images [hinting a totally redesigned next generation iPhone] seemed potentially authentic. But it seems that Case-Mate might be sneakily trying to take advantage of the excitement over the phone by posting and then unposting the images. These things rarely happen accidentally, especially when it comes to new Apple products.

Case # 2 : 'Looks largely the same as iPhone 4'

Concord Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told AppleInsider last month that Apple's next iPhone is expected to look largely the same as the current iPhone 4. He shared that though the antenna will be improved, there will be little change to its shape, and users will not see a discernable difference in its appearance.

Case # 3 : There's demand for a cheaper iPhone that Apple might want to address

Bonnie Chang of Yuanta Securities shares, "Apple may want to push into the emerging market segment, where customers want to switch to low- to mid-end smartphones from high-end feature phones, which usually cost $150 to $200 [...] But I think for an 8GB iPhone 4, the price is hard to go below $200, so Apple will still need a completely new phone with low specifications for the emerging markets."

Case # 4 : Insiders are already telling it like it is -- There will be two iPhones this year!

Taken straight from Case-Mate's official website; "From our inside resources, it appears that Apple will be indeed launching both an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S in early October. The speculation indicates that the iPhone 4S will feature the same form factor as the iPhone 4 but will be upgraded with the latest technology, including the A5 dual-core processor and 8 mega-pixel camera."

Case # 5 : Purported parts of the NEW iPhone look the same as those of iPhone 4!

Gizmodo describes the new iPhone parts made in Brazil as belonging to a 'cheaper iPhone' --

Most of these [parts] don't look like anything special — just [parts] of a familiar face. But when you get to the last one, a picture of a Foxconn Brazil quality control form, you'll notice something strange: a different model number, N90A. This has already been rumored to represent a cheaper version of the iPhone4.

TP Thoughts:

All leaks considered, it makes sense to expect two iPhones to be announced by Tim Cook on October 4. The first will be iPhone 4S, the cheaper of the two, with design similar to iPhone 4 but with slightly improved innards. And the second will be the iPhone 5, which will come with a completely redesigned case, bigger screen and a lot more powerful specifications.

So what do you think?
