Alcatel Philippines Gets Chris Tiu as Celebrity Endorser, Aims for a More High-End Image?

Look what I've just spotted in the mall!

Alcatel store display showing Chris Tiu as the company's newest celebrity endorser! Now, isn't that nice?

Really, Alcatel could have just gotten a teenybopper sensation from either networks to appeal to the masses. Instead, they got former Ateneo Blue Eagle and Smart Gilas basketball star Chris Tiu to be the face of their handsets. I guess the people behind the Alcatel are totally serious about turning around the local image of the brand (Remember those big Safeguard-soap-shaped Alcatel phones from several years back?).

Anyway.

If the goal is to make the brand look more high-end - if a bit, I think Alcatel made the right decision in plastering Chris Tiu's face all over their campaign materials. Call me biased for being a fellow Atenean, but that's how it is.

In the service of my TP Friends who've been religiously sending me emails with regard to the availability of Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman in the Philippines, I walked around SM North EDSA earlier and asked stores if they already have the handset.

Turns out, they do.

Yes, Sony Ericsson Live running Android 2.3 with its 1 GHz processor and sporting a 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, 720p video recorder, Walkman hardware button and xLOUD technology, which enhances audio output of the speakers at high levels, is now officially available in the Philippines!

So what's price tag? It's Php 11,000 - Php 11,500 in malls, depending on which cellphone shop you ask. Not bad, eh?

TP Initial Impressions:

I've got nothing but praises for this handset. Considering its price, I'm thoroughly surprised with how clear and bright the screen is and how smooth the scrolling feels. Not to mention, the phone also actually looks quite cute.

At Php 11,000, you get an Android phone with a 5 MegaPixel camera and an HD video recorder. And it's also got Walkman features to boot. I mean, who won't be impressed?
