8 Things You Need to Know About Nokia Lumia 800

1. Nokia Lumia 800 is the first product of the landmark alliance between two technology giants, Nokia and Microsoft Corporation. The phone runs Microsoft's Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system and comes with powerful applications that Nokia has become known for like Nokia Maps (formerly Ovi Maps), Nokia Drive and Nokia Music.

2. The design and construction of Nokia Lumia 800 is very similar to that of the MeeGo-powered Nokia N9. Both come in a slim unibody polycarbonate shell and flaunt a curved glass display. Even the color options are the same; Cyan, Black and Magenta.

3. Nokia Lumia 800 features an 8-MegaPixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics making it inarguably the best Windows Cameraphone in the world.

4. XBOX Live Hub of Nokia Lumia 800 offers cool games, and lets users see friends in the network and create and control their 3D avatars.

5. Like a true Windows Phone, Nokia Lumia 800's default web browser is Internet Explorer 9, which supposedly delivers buttery smooth experience, lightning fast performance, and broad support of Internet standards for HTML5 applications.

6. The phone comes replete with a 3.7 inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display blending seamlessly into the monoblock body design, and a 1.4 GHz processor with hardware acceleration and a graphics processor.

7. The projected retail price of Nokia Lumia 800 is 420 Euros or around Php 25,250 with current conversion, before taxes and subsidies.

8. Amazingly, Nokia Lumia 800 is now available for pre-order in France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK and is slated for release in November. The handset is scheduled to be available in Hong Kong, India, Russia, Singapore and Taiwan (and hopefully, in the Philippines as well) before the end of the year, and in other markets in early 2012.

This might not mean much to a lot of my fellow Nokia fans but as a tech-blogger who has to take lots of macro photos and videos, this camera spec update is very important to me.

Nokia's new midrange Windows Phone handset, the Nokia Lumia 710, has a 5 MegaPixel auto-focus camera! Yes, an autofocus camera on a Nokia midrange smartphone! Finally! This means that Nokia Lumia 710 should be able to deliver clear and crisp close-up photos and videos!

So does this mean that Nokia is officially dropping full focus lenses in all of its upcoming midrange smartphones? That remains to be seen, I guess. But - not to take anything away from full focus lenses because those deliver good landscape and portrait shots as well - I sure hope so.

This post aims to collate all relevant information about Nokia Lumia 710 in the Philippines. Rest assured that this entry will be updated regularly or every time we hear news about the handset's availability in our country, which could very well be The Gadget Capital of the World (for the most obvious reasons).

Now, THIS is the Nokia phone everyone's been waiting for.

Nokia Lumia 710: I know you want one. I understand.

It's affordable. It's powerful. And perhaps above all, it's VERY cute.

Look at all those colorful swappable back covers! You can practically change how your Nokia Lumia 701 looks every single day!

Flaunting a 3.7-inch Nokia Clear Black display and a 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, Nokia Lumia 710 runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system with utter smoothness; Thanks to its 1.4 Ghz processor and 512 MB of RAM.

Nokia Lumia 701 will come with an SRP of 270 Euros in other territories when it gets released during the latter part of the year, probably around Holiday Season. My guesstimate for its price in the Philippines is around Php 16,200 (that's 270 Euros with current conversion, before taxes).

While we're all awaiting word from Nokia Philippines on the phone's exact release date in the Philippines (I'm guessing it will reach our shores around Yuletide), you might want to check out the complete technical specs of Nokia Lumia 701:

Considering what Angie Ligot had 'supposedly' just written on Facebook, it's no surprise that she's now getting nothing but Christopher-Lao-Level ire and belligerence from a lot of Pinoys in that popular social networking site.

Rough translation: "I regret being a Filipino. I hate [being in] the Philippines! The people are ugly! Everyone's dark-skinned! Everyone's flat-nosed! Eye-sores! Our representative, [Shamcey] Supsup, her last name is ugly and she doesn't look like a Filipino! She looks gay! ****! I hope I can leave this place, ****!"

TP Thoughts:

1. Being severely nationalistic, I have to admit that my heart was instantly engulfed with anger the first time I read what this Angie Ligot supposedly posted. I wanted to write a comment and slam her right back. But then, I asked myself, "First off, did she really write it? Maybe her account got hacked. Or maybe someone is just trying to 'besmirch' her name online."

TP Message: "Angie, if you're reading this, did you really write that line? If you actually did, shame on you! But if you didn't, email me at mark[at]techpinas[dot]com and let's publish your official statement on this obvious attempt to dirty up your name."

2. How you see the Philippines and its people is but a reflection of yourself. If you think the Philippines and Filipinos are ugly, for sure, it's only because you are ugly.

Nokia Lumia 710, for the lack of a better word to describe it, is plain HOT.

It's so hot, I bet it's gonna be the dream phone for a lot of yuppies and college students in 2012! Surely.

Running Windows Phone 7 Mango with the same 1.4 GHz processor, hardware acceleration and graphics processor as more expensive Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia Lumia 710 delivers high performance at an affordable price -- just 270 Euros or roughly Php 16,200, excluding taxes and subsidies!

The Nokia Lumia 710 is designed to deliver the best web-browsing experience with Internet Explorer 9, and instant social and image sharing. The phone is available in black and white with interchangeable black, white, fuchsia, yellow, and cyan back covers -- allowing you to personalize it every time you go out.

Look! Its 5 MegaPixel camera even comes with LED flash!

Nokia Lumia 710 will be available first in Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, India, and Taiwan toward the end of this year alongside Nokia Lumia 800, before becoming available in other markets (, which perhaps include the Philippines) in early 2012.

I love this phone. So cute!

Officially announced today in Nokia World 2011, Nokia Lumia 800 is the Finnish company's first Windows Phone 7 smartphone.

The stunning Nokia Lumia 800, which comes in 3 vivid colors - Cyan, Magenta and Black, features head-turning design and the best social and web-browsing performance, with one-touch social network access, easy grouping of contacts, integrated communication threads and Internet Explorer 9.

The smartphone flaunts a 3.7-inch AMOLED ClearBlack curved display blending seamlessly into unibody case, and runs Windows Phone 7 Mango with its 1.4 GHz processor with hardware acceleration and a graphics processor. The Nokia Lumia 800 contains an instant-share 8 MegaPixel camera experience based on the industry-leading Carl Zeiss optics. Also, the phone comes with HD video playback, 16GB of internal user memory and 25GB SkyDrive storage for storing images and music cloud storage. The estimated retail price for Nokia Lumia 800 is approximately 420 EUR or roughly Php 25,250 with current conversion, excluding taxes and subsidies.

Nokia Lumia 800 is now available in select countries for pre-order and is scheduled to roll-out across Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, and the UK in November. The handset is scheduled to be available in India, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan before the end of the year, and in in early 2012 for other markets.

TP Friends, we currently have Nokia N9 in our TP Hideout, which makes me all the more excited to receive a Nokia Lumia 800 unit. You all know I love comparing phones -- especially when they look almost 100% alike - on the outside, at least.

Check out the first of the four new phones that have just been formally announced at Nokia World 2011.

Nokia Asha 200 with suggested retail price of only 60 Euros or around Php 3,600 before taxes and subsidies is officially the most affordable thumb-type QWERTY handset from Nokia ever.

It appears to run an updated version of the S40 operating system, replete with Nokia's trademark Squarecle icons.

To those who are wondering: Yes, Nokia has started to implement an all-new nomenclature or naming system for their handsets. From having only 3-digit number names (e.g. Nokia 700, Nokia 701), Nokia is now using female names plus 3-digit numbers for its new phones.

Nokia Asha 200 flaunts a full focus camera with no LED flash at the back and a rather big loud speaker.

Asha is an Indian word, which means Hope.

Image grabs courtesy of The Verge

I'll update this post as soon as I get more information on this freshly unveiled feature phone.

Update as of 5:18PM --

We now have the official photos of Nokia Asha 200:

Cute!

Nokia Asha 200 is a fun and colorful Dual SIM Dual Standby QWERTY phone designed to meet the needs of young consumers who want to constantly stay in touch. Nokia Asha 200 features integrated social networking, email and IM. Nokia Asha 200 also makes it possible to carry thousands of songs wherever you go with support for 32 GB memory cards and providing enough battery for up to a staggering 52-hour music playback time!

Off hand, I think this phone will sell like hotcakes in the Philippines -- just like it's older sister, the Nokia C3.
