Nokia N9 Overview: Nokia designed the stylish MeeGo-powered Nokia N9 to give quick access to the most important things people do with their smartphones: browse the web, use applications, update and view social networking accounts and switch between activities through a simple gesture: A Swipe. Nokia N9 carries the latest smartphone technology including a polycarbonate monoblock body, which provides superior antenna performance for better reception, 8 MegaPixel camera with award-winning Carl Zeiss autofocus sensor, wide-angle lens, 720p High-Definition video capture and large lens aperture, free turn-by-turn walk and drive navigation with voice guide in Maps, true 16:9 widescreen format video playback with surround sound experience, and Near Field Communication (NFC), allowing users to easily share images, videos, music and other content between NFC-capable devices simply by touching them together. Nokia N9 is now available in the Philippines exclusively via Smart Postpaid. It comes as a free bundled handset with Smart All-In Plan 3500, UnliData Plan 2000 and UnliData Plan 3000. Design, Hardware and Ports:  The face of the phone flaunts the 3.9-inch 480 x 854 pixels AMOLED display with curved glass capacitive touchscreen. My Nokia N9 here is wrapped in the silicon sleeve that comes with the package. The color of the sleeve matches that of the phone itself.  The back panel shows the 8 MegaPixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics with dual LED flash.  Nokia N9 comes in 2 variants, 16GB and 64GB versions, and in 3 colors, Cyan, Black and Magenta.  We have the loud speaker at the rear.  The right side has the volume rocker and the screen lock button.  Top panel has the microUSB port hidden under a door and beside that is the microSIM slot (here hidden under the sleeve). TP Quick Commentary on Nokia N9 Design: I've got nothing but praises for the design of Nokia N9. For one, I think it's highly original; It's practically the first phone I've seen with a unibody polycarbonate enclosure and a curved glass screen. This, in itself, shows you how much Nokia wants to drive innovation and avoid just being a second-rate trying-hard copycat. Oh, and I also like the fact that it's the only flagship smartphone these days that you can get in fun and vibrant colors, like Cyan and Magenta, which makes it a perfect phone for power-users who always want to be unique and to stand out from the crowd. Features: Nokia N9 looks nice but it's also feature-packed. Be it playing music, taking high-resolution photos, recording HD videos, browsing the web, playing games, or staying connected on Facebook and Twitter, Nokia N9 simply delivers. For me, there are five departments where Nokia N9 totally excels in. 1. Imaging and Video Capture Nokia N9 flaunts an 8 MegaPixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Last week, I posted an entry showing Nokia N9 Sample Photos and I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed with the quality of the shots. I mean, for a smartphone, Nokia N9 delivered some shots that look like they were taken using a digicam. As for video capture, here's a short clip taken using Nokia N9: 2. Maps Nokia N9 combines 3D building models, terrain data, Navteq drive imagery, and even a so-called 'laser rangefinder data' (LiDAR) to deliver a map experience unlike anything I've experienced before. The Nokia N9 Maps application even allows me to search and explore locations the world-over and check-in on Facebook and Foursquare.  3. NFC Frankly, Nokia N9 is THE phone that introduced NFC or Near Field Communication technology in the flagship category. That's what you call innovation. Basically, NFC is a wireless connectivity technology that makes it more convenient to make transactions, exchange digital content, and connect electronic devices with a touch. You can use Nokia N9's NFC technology to connect with speakers and earphones and play music wirelessly. Web Browsing I tell you, the MeeGo browser on Nokia N9 is easily the best default browser on a Nokia handset I've ever used. It loads websites real fast, scrolling is very smooth and multi-touch gestures for zooming in and out are supported.  5. Social Networking There's Facebook for Nokia N9 and Twitter for Nokia N9. The fact that Nokia bothered to make these custom apps specifically for Nokia N9 instead of just relying on the browser shows that the company wants Nokia N9 to be a capable social networking device. Also, I find both apps very easy to use and navigate; I seriously can't imagine anyone having a problem using them. Verdict: Nokia N9 could very well be the best phone the Finnish company has released thus far both in the hardware and software department. The handset's unique and eye-catching design is matched only by its capable and user-friendly user interface. If you're looking for a feature-packed smartphone with a good camera that will make you stand out from the crowd as soon as you take it out of your bag or your pocket, Nokia N9 is the phone for you.
