Posted: 22 Feb 2012 10:40 AM PST

Ever since I was little, I always loved the idea of family game night. It always made me feel special and I always had so much fun! I guess psychologists have a million different reasons why family time is so important to the development of a child. I just know it was one of the highlights of being a kid, and it made me feel a whole lot closer to my mom and dad.

Well, here’s something you dont see everyday, a multi player gameshow for the iPad, think Jeopardy, without the need to phrase the answers in the form of a question. Each player gets their own “Popper” in order to buzz in with an answer. The apps are available on iTunes and with several titles to choose from, family game night can be a blast!

There’s Guesstimation, where you answer such questions as “how many ridges are there on the edge of a dime?” In The Know is a progressive clue game where the quicker you guess correctly, the more points you can earn. There are also some Highlights magazine themed hidden picture games and of course a more adult oriented game, Duo’s Saturday Night Live.

All the games are offered as free downloads to try, after that, if you enjoy them you can purchase additional content for under 2 bucks. The actual game, which works with any iPad and is good for 2 to 4 players (or teams) Comes with 4 “Poppers” and a transmitter to be place near your iPad’s speaker. Available for $39.99 at Amazon.com Stay tuned for a review of Yoomi and Plink, 2 other iPad games brought to you by Duo!

iPosture – Don’t be a Slouch

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 06:52 AM PST

I guess it would be no secret that I am a bit of a sloucher, after all, I am in front of a computer for most of the day, but I think it all started because when I was a young kid, I was taller than all the boys, whatever the case, poor posture isn’t attractive, and I guess its not all that good for you either. Getting into bad habits is easy… Changing bad habits is hard.

Here’s some help for your posture issues, you know, just in case your mom isn’t standing nearby yelling at you to stand up straight. Developed by a neurologist, the iPosture is designed to be worn as a pendant, clipped to your clothing or stuck directly to your skin. It senses your body’s position and instantly serves to remind you to straighten up simply by vibrating when you slouch, and continuing until its corrected. Just like Mom.

The iPosture is designed to be worn for approximately four hours per day for the first two to four weeks and is supposed to gently enforce your good posture habits until they become second nature to you. I remember reading that somewhere.. that a good habit takes around 21 days to form, something like that. (we all know a BAD habit only takes about 2 minutes) Anyway, the user then needs to wear the device only 2 or 3 times a week after that to maintain their military type stance.
The the trick to the iPosture device is a wearable intelligent nano-sensor that measures your stance every few seconds, and warns the user of any 3 or more degree deviation from the preset position. It has one button controls and turns itself off when you lay it down, and your ideal position can be changed at anytime. No word yet on whether or not it will nag you to eat your vegetables or wear clean underwear.
Available for under 75 bucks and it comes in a Golf performance package as well, both from iPosture.com

iPhone Weight Loss Tracking Scale

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 05:30 AM PST

“There’s an app for that…” has proved to be quite the marketing mantra for folks who are huge fans of the iPhone (and of course, the iPod). For those who are looking out for different methods of maintaining their weight (or keeping track of their weight loss regime’s effectiveness), here is the $69.95 iPhone Weight Loss Tracking Scale that might just do the trick. The name of the scale gives the game away right from the get go, where this digital bathroom scale is able to wirelessly transmits weight readings to an iPhone in order to make it easier for you to monitor your weight. The scale is smart enough to send weight information to an iPhone automatically over Bluetooth, so make sure your iPhone remains within the 16′ “bubble” of Bluetooth.

A free app will stash those time-stamped readings, and showing them off as a list or on a graph for daily, portable tracking. You can also let the app know just what kind of food you have eaten, in addition to your exercise routine so that it will calculates the number of calories consumed as well as amount burned daily, nudging you closer to your weight loss goals with a visual representation. Of course, all of that comes to nothing if you do not stick to your weight loss regime. The scale itself is equipped with a tempered glass top, and has a digital display, showing off readings in pounds or kilograms that are accurate to 1/10th of a pound or kilogram.

CD Direct digitizes music to MP3 format

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

I don’t know about you, but purchasing an audio track in the MP3 format still does not beat the feeling of holding a physical CD in hand, be it an album or a single. After all, we humans are physical creatures, so to live in a physical world with representations in the form of objects are still easier to grasp than something virtual. Of course, when you take environmental issues into consideration, we are better off without CDs, but that is another story for a different day. Here is a machine for CD and vinyl collectors to consider preserving their music in a more flexible format – the MP3 file. The £249.99 CD Direct is not only capable of converting vinyls onto a CD, but it will also be able to convert vinyls into MP3 directly.

Even better is the built-in speaker that is thrown into the mix, letting you enjoy your vinyls as you rip them. Alternatively, you can also opt to give your vinyl a jump up the tech tree by one notch – that is, to convert whatever is on your vinyl to CD format. Talk about giving your ancient collection of music a new lease of life!

Pyle Snorkeling Master Watch

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 04:30 AM PST

If you love heading underwater for some Nemo-watching sessions, then you would definitely do well to own a timepiece that is able to withstand the rigors of underwater life. After all, it can be all too easy to lose yourself when you are underwater, considering how everything beneath the sea level seems so surreal. Here is a candidate that you might want to consider – the Pyle Snorkeling Master Watch. This is the latest addition to the Pyle Sports range, and is best used for snorkeling (obviously), but its usage is not limited to just that, as it also caters to those involved in free diving, boating and other underwater sports activities.

The Pyle Snorkeling Master Watch is a water-resistant sports watch that not only keeps the time, but will also enable you to record and store data in its dive log. This is no ordinary dive log, since it can hold up to 100 records, and each dive record will squirrel away a bunch of important details such as time and date, dive duration, maximum dive depth, minimum water temperature and dive site indication information.

Some folks might take offense at the 100 record limit, but I would say that if you can procrastinate writing down 100 records somewhere else, surely space for 1,000 records will also be inadequate, not to mention it would be a whole lot harder trying to figure out details of past dives since they happened all too long ago already. Enough about that though – let us see what else the Pyle Snorkeling Master Watch packs. It boasts of half a dozen six function modes, including Current Time, Chronograph, Countdown Timer, Dual Time Mode, Dive Mode and Dive Recall Mode to help underwater users keep track of important information during their snorkeling adventures.

Being water resistant up to 330 feet, the Snorkeling Master will also come with the all important safety feature, a dive alarm which will activate whenever you emerge at a rate that is faster than 6 meters per minute. Not only that, an integrated thermometer measures the temperature of the water from 14°F to 140°F. To make sure you can see the watch’s display, an electro-luminescent backlight is there to help you out. You can choose from Black, Green, Orange and Red colors for $99.99 a pop.

ProAktivo Sports Tracker

Posted: 22 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST

The battle of the bulge is something many of us make attempts to fight, with varying levels of success, of course. There are many tools in the market to help one achieve one’s fitness goals, but the most important one is free and still remains the essential ingredient in all weight loss programs – determination and discipline. Have that, and the tools around you will aid you in your journey, where we will take a closer look at one of these tools today. The ProAktivo Sports Tracker is an app that was just released on Windows Phone Marketplace, being an all-in-one mobile centric solution for tracking, analyzing and sharing workout data on Windows Phone devices.

Granted, Windows Phone is not exactly the most popular mobile operating system at the moment, but it has its fair share of fans as well as upcoming phones from Nokia and perhaps even Sony brightening up prospects on this platform. At least the inclusion of apps like ProAktivo Sports Tracker will also help raise the profile of Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

The ProAktivo Sports Tracker does more than just tracking though, as it is also equipped with a comprehensive reporting and analyzing features. These features will come in handy to inform the user about every important aspect of their workouts, and such information will be visually appealing thanks to the inclusion of rich visual charts. Since sports enthusiasts do not really want to pore through their fitness level data as though they were going through a final year paper, a quick glance would work far better in this respect to help them gain a better understanding of their workout trends and performance over time.

Other plus points of the ProAktivo Sports Tracker would be doing away with the need for an expensive, standalone fitness tracking device, as there is no need for additional payments, and neither do you need to struggle with additional website subscriptions – best of all, no advertisements are served, with your workout data stashed away on the device itself. It supports English, German and Croatian languages, and will offer measurements in imperial and metric readings. While the trial version of the application is limited to three workouts, you can always fork out $3.99 for the full version if it pleases you.
