PooPrints – Tells you Who’s Poo?

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 08:49 AM PST

Dog poop. Yuck, I mean, I love a cute canine as much as the next guy and there’s nothing like the unconditional love of a pet. Coming home from work and having your best buddy so happy to see you, nothings better than that. I don’t mind picking up after MY dog, but scraping poop off my flip flops because someone else was lazy in their pet maintenance… that’s not only disgusting, its unforgivable.

Well, some apartment complexes and other managed communities have decided to fight back by enlisting the aid of PooPrints, a company that tracks down the offending pooper using genuine DNA technology. Seriously? I like it!

It works something like this, as a condition of keeping a pet at your apartment, you agree to have your pets gums swabbed (just like on CSI) and his DNA profile is saved to a database associated with your complex. If a poo pile is found on-site, then using a waste collection kit, a sample is obtained and sent to the lab, in 5 to 10 days the genetic profile from the waste can be matched to the offending pet and VOILA! The party pooper is busted. No word yet on how they handle chain of custody concerns.

Anyway, the PooPrints DNA collection kit contains enough materials to swab 5 of your furry friends for registration and the waste evidence collection kits handle 5 submissions to the lab, each set costs around 50 bucks. Since the cost can be absorbed by pet fees or non-refundable pet deposits, it could make your next apartment experience a real walk in the park. For more information visit www.PooPrints.com

From your Phone to the TV… Wirelessly!

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 08:30 AM PST

I love Smartphones, they really have made many tasks much simpler, I can check prices, find things in stock, heck even submit an order and have it waiting for me. The only problem I have is that I need to have my glasses in order to be able to see anything on the darn thing, and its not just my eyes.. the screen really is a bit small, I could do a lot more with the phone if I could see the stuff on an ordinary sized screen… you know, only when I needed to.

So here’s a neat idea, imagine if you could simply stream your Smartphone content right to your television, allowing you to view or work with items right on the big screen, instead of on your teeny tiny phone. Imagine if that could be pretty much any TV, and that you could conveniently view Internet pages, watch video, play games, or perform other activities related to the mobile phone by viewing them on that television screen, all by means of a simple mobile phone accessory. That would be pretty cool, right?

Well, the technology exists and has already been patented by Mr. Lasse Haltunnen, who now, through an intellectual property brokerage firm, is currently listing his idea for sale.

His game changing ”accessory” comprises a Bluetooth receiver and a converter which receives signals transmitted from the mobile phone, and converts these signals (such as image signals) into an output format (e.g., RGB signals) as required for display on a television screen. Evidently, the technology can easily be built into some sort of proprietary docking station or perhaps even some other peripheral making for a very interesting concept.

No word on the price of this amazing intellectual property, but interested parties can contact: www.icap.com Just promise, when you make your super successful Phone-to-TV gadget that we get one to check out, at least a few weeks before anyone else!

The Pet’s Water Cooler

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 05:00 AM PST

Being a responsible pet owner includes making sure that your feline or pooch has more than enough clean water at any one time. There are many other ways to make sure your pet gets adequate amounts of water, such as those screw-on containers that require a used plastic bottle, while others are more expensive in the form of a water fountain. Just in case you happen to live in a place where the mercury soars during the day and the heat gets unbearable, imagine wearing a fur coat that you cannot take off no matter how hot it gets – which is why there is the $49.95 Pet’s Water Cooler from Hammacher.

This particular bowl ensures that your pet gets a constant supply of water that is chilled throughout the entire day, allowing dogs and cats to remain cool and hydrated. It will not rely on ice cubes which will require frequent replenishing or fountains that require electricity or batteries, as the bowl will keep the water cool thanks to a removable insert that is lined with non-toxic gel. It takes just two hours in the freezer and will keep the water chilled well below room temperature for up to eight hours. As for the durable ABS plastic bowl, it can be cleaned easily, and will feature a rubber base that keeps it in place.

Just when you thought that the Samsung Galaxy Note was a rather huge phone with its 5.3″ display, along comes the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that was announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This will certainly add yet another member to the Galaxy Note family of devices, where the huge display will offer multi-screen functionality that maximizes efficiency in learning, work and creative endeavors. With multi-screen functionality, that translates to the ability to being a true multitasker, as you can keep track of your emails in one window, view a website in another, as well as play a video in the third while a fourth window is meant for you to write down your notes or sketch when inspiration strikes.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 will also come with S Note, a special and efficient tool that will allow you to combine notes as well as sketches together with web content, images and other digital media right into a personalized storyboard. This lets you create stories on-the-go, since the S Note already comes with different ready-to-use templates including meeting minutes, recipe, cards, diary, and magazine among others. There are also hand-drawn geometric shapes which can be perfectly digitized thanks to the Shape Match function, where you can create more organized idea sketches and storyboards.

Want to perform image editing on the move? Not a problem, thanks to the introduction of Adobe Photoshop Touch and Adobe Ideas, where the former allows you to transform images with core Photoshop features as well as combine multiple photos into layered images. You can also make popular edits and apply professional effects if those are your cup of team. As for Adobe Ideas, this is an easy-to-master drawing tool which will let you sketch ideas, pick out amazing color themes and import images.

The hardware specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 include a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+ connectivity, Full HD video playback support, video streaming in real time, all running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Hopefully it will be affordable enough for the masses when it hits the general market.

Sony Mobile unleashes Xperia NXT series with XPERIA P and XPERIA U

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST

So it has begun – with the Ericsson equation being taken out of the Sony Ericsson partnership, just how do the two new smartphones announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, last night fare? Well, we are looking at the XPERIA P and XPERIA U, with the XPERIA S being ready to ship to worldwide markets as well. The XPERIA NXT series is supposed to deliver a connected entertainment experience to the masses, so let us see just how they are going to achieve that.

Bringing together the best of Sony technology as well as premium entertainment, the Xperia NXT series will be part of Sony's connected experience to let one enjoy and share content on whichever screen that best suits them, never mind if it is a smartphone, TV, notebook or tablet.

Sony takes pride in their design, where the Xperia NXT series sports a look which can be recognized instantly. These smartphones will feature intriguing design features that include the "transparent element", which is basically a band that will encircle the base of the handset as well as integrate invisible antenna components. This particular transparent element will illuminate whenever one receives incoming calls, text messages and perhaps social network notifications.

Not only that, there is a spanking new User Interface (UI) that will follow a similar design principle, where it will enhance the Android experience that allows one to enjoy rich applications as well as content with a simple and clean look. Both the XPERIA P and XPERIA U will come with a Reality Display that is powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine, and it takes slightly more than a second to bring the camera to life, while its 1GHz dual-core processors get the job done regardless of the situation.

Both models will arrive in their respective markets in due time – we will just need to be patient and start counting the pennies in our bank account if we want one.
