SBU V3 – Look Ma! No Hands

Posted: 08 Mar 2012 11:48 AM PST

I have never been the most coordinated creature on the planet. Since I learned to walk, people have called me the klutz, the clod and sarcastically, the ballerina. Needless to say people like me should normally shy away from this next item. Unless of course its purpose is to make you look good.

Welcome Focus Design’s newest Self Balancing Unicycle, or SBU V3. Boasting a learning curve that leaves any traditional unicycle in the dust, Focus Designs says that the average rider can be up and at em’ in just about 20 minutes. The SBU has a self balancing feature that orchestrates your forward and back movements keeping you extra steady in the saddle. Able to travel about 7.5  miles on a single AC charge and with top speeds of about 15 miles per hour, this thing could be a city dwellers new best friend.

So forget pesky handlebars or steering wheels, conquer your fears and impress your friends, the SBU does all the hard work for you. Using movements similar to riding a Segway, you simply use your body to signal your intentions and your SBU  will help you do it smoothly. It weighs in at only around 27 pounds and is more than capable of transporting a rider of up to 325 pounds. Check out the video here.

The SBU V3 comes with a battery and charger for around $1795.00, and it might be worthwhile to purchase an additional battery pack for around $299.00 (for longer trips) and in my case, I’ll definitely be needing the Noob wheels (I really like how they don’t call them training wheels) for an additional $85.00 Find it all at focusdesigns.com

My worries are over, welcome Leviton’s Mobile Device Station which gets some of your stuff up and off the floor. The Mobile Device Station quite simply attaches to your existing electrical outlet by means of a Leviton faceplate, all without any new holes in your walls. To install it you just screw the Station onto a Leviton wallplate that has taken the place of your existing wallplate.

“The Mobile Device Station’s low-profile look complements the wallplates in any home or office,” said Grant Sullivan, marketing manager at Leviton Network Solutions. “Its simple design and installation make it a must-have for all the portable devices in your home.”

The Mobile Device Station comes in three colors, black, white and light almond and is compatible with both Leviton’s Decora and Renubrand wallplates. Apple TV receives 1080p High Definition capability

Posted: 08 Mar 2012 04:30 AM PST

I guess out of the many devices that Apple has rolled out in recent years, the Apple TV never really captured the imagination of many. Sure, it is very compact and would look nice in just about any living room, but does it have the relevant firepower to maintain a stranglehold in living rooms across America? The answer had been no, and Cupertino tries to change that with their latest version of the Apple TV. One of the biggest improvements to the new Apple TV would be 1080p programming including iTunes movies and TV shows, Netflix, Vimeo, photos and more in HD.

When you couple that with iTunes in the Cloud, one is able to purchase and play their favorite movies and TV shows directly from the iTunes Store, watching them on the spot on a compatible HDTV. Apple also hopes to simplify things further by featuring a simpler, refined user interface that makes it a snap to access your purchased movies, TV shows and music with iTunes Match right from iCloud. The inclusion of AirPlay also helps users to stream or mirror their favorite content from their iPad or iPhone 4S to Apple TV.

According to Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, "People are going to love streaming movies and TV shows in 1080p with the new Apple TV, and photos look beautiful displayed at the maximum resolution of your TV. Apple TV is easier than ever to use with its new icon-based interface and the ability to access your purchased movies, TV shows and music right from iCloud."

Apple TV users have a wealth of choice to pick from, including more than 15,000 movies and over 90,000 TV episodes on the iTunes Store. Not only that, Apple TV also delivers great content from Netflix's streaming catalog, live sports from MLB, NBA and NHL as well as Internet content from Vimeo, YouTube and Flickr. iCloud lets you purchase movies and TV shows on Apple TV, and you are also able to transfer and watch them on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC.

The world’s in Full High Definition madness, and have been for quite some time already. Glad to see Apple TV play catch up this time around. For those who are interested, the new Apple TV will arrive this March 16 for $99 a pop.
