| Nokia Lumia 710 Philippines In the Flesh, Unboxing Video, Initial Impressions Posted: 17 Apr 2012 10:54 AM PDT Nokia Lumia 710 has made it to the TP Hideout! And this can only mean one thing: The smartphone should be available in the Philippines real soon!  Nokia Lumia 710 is the Finnish company's first ever midrange Windows Phone handset. Flaunting a 3.7-inch WVGA TFT screen with Nokia Clear Black display, 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash, and a 720p video recorder, Nokia Lumia 710 runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango with its 1.4 Ghz processor and 512 MB of RAM. The smartphone is for budget-conscious consumers who want to experience the Windows Phone platform on a Nokia handset that has slightly above average technical specifications. What's hot about WP? Targeted towards the consumer market, Windows Phone features an easy to use and visually attractive interface called Metro, supports a variety of applications from Windows Marketplace, and comes with key mobile services from Microsoft including Zune for music and videos and XBox Live for games. Watch me unbox TP's Nokia Lumia 710 review unit, which came all the way from Finland;  Again, we have the unit itself, the 1300 mAh battery, manuals, charger, USB to microUSB connector cable and in-ear earphones Let me share my initial impressions of the handset; 1. Obviously, one of the coolest things about this phone is its youthful design. Frankly, I think it looks like a bigger version of Samsung Corby (not exactly like it though), which became popular among students and yuppies in 2010 and 2011 -- only Nokia Lumia 710 is a full-fledged smartphone. As such, I can totally imagine this handset being the new aspirational smartphone for young techies.  2. Another cool design element is the swappable back cover which comes in Cyan, Fuchsia, White, Black and Yellow. Every unit ships with only one case but I believe Nokia will eventually sell these covers as an accessory for the phone. I got mine in Cyan and aside from its vibrant hue, what I like about it is that it has a matte finish, which kinda helps keep the phone from easily slipping my grasp.  3. At the back of the phone, you'll find the 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash. If you've been following Nokia's recent smartphone releases, you should know that from as late last year, Nokia's midrange handsets have always had cameras with fixed focus lenses, which made them great for snapping landscape photos but not quite as impressive for close-up or macro shots. I'm just glad that Nokia has decided to bring autofocus lens to midrange Nokia Lumia 710 and give consumers more options when shooting photos using the phone. 4. My only gripe about Nokia Lumia 700, as of the moment, is that the hardware buttons below the screen are kinda stiff and hard to press. Then again, maybe I'm just terribly spoiled with all those touch sensitive buttons on my other handsets or the lack of any front-facing hardware button on my Nokia N9.  5. Compared to the more expensive Nokia Lumia 800, which has an AMOLED display, Nokia Lumia 710's screen is only TFT. Familiar with the latter's specs sheet, I have to admit that before I turned on TP's review unit, I kinda expected its display to look a bit dull or even slightly pixelated. To my surprise, however, it actually looks great! Colors appear vibrant; Details, crisp! As earlier disclosed on TechPinas, Smart Communications will be the sole and exclusive carrier of Nokia Lumia 710 in the Philippines. The company will disclose the exact pricing details and plan bundles for the smartphone in an exclusive event on April 19, 2012.
