Posted: 27 Apr 2012 02:17 PM PDT TechPinas has just received confirmation from Nokia Philippines that Nokia Lumia 610, the most affordable handset in the company's 2012 Lumia Windows Phone line, will be available nationwide by the end of April 2012 - that's this month. This officially makes the Philippines the very first country in the world to get this new smartphone. According to Nokia, Nokia Lumia 610 - with its distinctive profile, finely beveled metallic edges, and youthful color options, namely, White, Magenta, Cyan, and Black - is built to convey both aspiration and quality. The handset serves as a perfect introduction to Windows Phone for a younger audience. As a true WP release, Nokia Lumia 610 provides instant access to Facebook and Twitter and brings all messaging and social networking accounts and contacts into one place, making it easier to stay in touch with friends and colleagues. Browsing the Web is also more convenient with Internet Explorer 9 (in fact, Nokia is currently challenging all Android and iPhone users to a browsing speed competition) and users can now choose from thousands upon thousands of applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace to further personalize his or her mobile experience. As for gaming, there's always XBox Live. Nokia Lumia 610 even comes with free useful extras like Nokia Drive and Nokia Maps that only the Finnish company can provide. Nokia Lumia 610 comes with a 5 MegaPixel autofocus camera with LED flash and an HD 720p video recorder! Not bad for a budget Windows Phone handset, eh?! Again, the ultra-cute Nokia Lumia 610 will hit store shelves in the Philippines within a few days so watch out for it and make sure you check it out ahead of your friends. You can get it via select Nokia stores and retail outlets across the archipelago for only Php 10,980. I know, that's already super-affordable for a Windows Phone with fine technical specifications;

Posted: 26 Apr 2012 11:50 PM PDT This is part two of my brother's report on the recent Sony Xperia NXT 2012 smartphone series launch in the Philippines. With an aluminum unibody design, midrange Android release Sony Xperia P is the first smartphone to flaunt Sony's very own WhiteMagic display technology. According to the company, WhiteMagic delivers the brightest viewing experience - even under direct sunlight. It also comes with smart power efficiency feature which adjusts the brightness of the screen based on ambient light to improve uptime. Available in silver and black, Sony Xperia P has a 4-inch Reality Display powered by the Mobile BRAVIA Engine and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS with its 1 GHz Dual Core processor. It also comes with an 8 MegaPixel camera with Sony's unique fast capture technology, a Full HD video recorder and a 2D and 3D shooter for taking panoramic images. Aside from its solid set of Sony mobile multimedia features, what sets Sony Xperia P apart from other Android phones in its price category is that it has an HDMI port for conveniently connecting it to a larger display and it supports a growing range of NFC services and applications. In fact, all units ship with two NFC Xperia SmartTags from Sony. Check out this live demo video of Sony Xperia P that my brother recorded for us -- So what are some of his initial impressions of this handset? 1. The unibody anodized aluminum case of Sony Xperia P reminds him so much of the shell of Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray from last year. Both midrange phones have this sleek metallic look that makes the user feel that he is holding an expensive piece of jewelry in his hand. 2. Just like Sony Xperia S, Xperia P has a dedicated hardware camera button on its right side. This button is rare in flagship Android releases and even more rare in midrange handsets. My brother said that, for him, the fact that Sony bothers to put them in their smartphones (in contrast to other Android phone manufacturers) reflects the company's efforts to be the leader when it comes to mobile imaging. 3. The technology behind Sony Xperia P's display - called WhiteMagic - reminds him of LG's NOVA display found in LG Optimus Black from 2011, which we have in the TP Gadget Vault (TPGV). While he doesn't think that the features of WhiteMagic are unique or one-of-a-kind, he told me nonetheless that Sony Xperia P's bright display is a sight to behold. With an official suggested retail price of Php 22,990 and arriving in the Philippines around mid-May 2012, I consider Sony Xperia P an 'Upper Midrange' Android release. It will enter the market with a lot of terrifying competition - both those running Android OS and the new Windows Phone releases from Nokia - but I'm sure it will hold its own; Thanks to its design, construction, user interface, display, and multimedia features.
